Tracy Renewable Energy Accelerates Sustainable Innovation with Delivery of Zero-Emission Hydrogen Electric Semi-Trucks
Tracy, CA — Tracy Renewable Energy (TRE) is driving into a sustainable future with the arrival of its first Nikola hydrogen-electric semi-truck, marking the beginning of an ambitious rollout of 10 zero-emission vehicles. In an interesting twist of fate, the truck model shares its name with the company—TRE.
The new Nikola TRE will play a critical role in transporting processed and contaminated water from Central Valley processors to TRE's advanced treatment facility in Tracy, California. At this state-of-the-art plant, the water will be purified using TRE’s patented SteamBoy system, which is powered by agricultural waste, achieving near net-zero CO2 emissions.
Nikola Corporation, a leader in hydrogen-electric technology, has already deployed hundreds of its cutting-edge trucks across the United States. These versatile vehicles operate in both electric and hydrogen modes, offering superior efficiency and sustainability, setting a benchmark for the transportation industry.
To support its hydrogen-electric operations, TRE is building an 8 MW biomass power plant. This innovative facility will generate:
- 3 MW of power for the electrical grid
- 1 MW to run TRE’s desalination plant
- 4 MW to produce green hydrogen
The hydrogen produced will be used to power TRE’s growing fleet of zero-emission vehicles and will also supply 1,000 kg of green hydrogen daily to the Port of Stockton, reinforcing TRE’s commitment to advancing clean energy in California.
"This partnership with Nikola is an exciting step forward in our mission to reduce emissions and create sustainable solutions for energy and water management," said Frank Schubert, CEO of Tracy Renewable Energy.
Tracy Renewable Energy is celebrating this milestone, highlighting the shared vision of both companies for a cleaner, greener future.
Tracy Renewable Energy continues to lead the way in integrating renewable energy innovations to create a cleaner, more sustainable tomorrow.
