Tracy Renewable Energy Pioneers Breakthrough PFAS Destruction Technology, Powered by Sustainable
Innovation
Tracy, CA – November 23, 2024 – Tracy Renewable Energy (TRE) is revolutionizing water treatment with its
groundbreaking, zero-emission process for the complete destruction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances
(PFAS). Utilizing its patented SteamBoy distillation system and a patent-pending electrochemical process, TRE
is setting a new standard for sustainable environmental remediation.
TRE's innovative approach begins with the SteamBoy distillation system, which efficiently removes PFAS from
contaminated water. The resulting concentrate is then processed through TRE's unique electrochemical system,
where PFAS molecules are completely broken down into harmless byproducts: nitrogen, water (H2O), carbon
dioxide (CO2), and fluoride ions.
These byproducts are managed sustainably:
• Nitrogen is released into the atmosphere, which is naturally 80% nitrogen.
• Purified water is made available for local use.
• Fluoride ions are neutralized by combining with sodium chloride.
• CO2 is delivered to Reactive Surfaces for conversion into algae.
This comprehensive process will play a crucial role in addressing PFAS contamination in California's Central
Valley. Contaminated water will be transported to TRE’s state-of-the-art treatment facility in Tracy, California,
using TRE's fleet of hydrogen-powered semi-trucks, ensuring a low-carbon footprint from collection to
treatment. The SteamBoy system, powered by agricultural waste, further minimizes CO2 emissions.
Having secured provisional patent approval, TRE is now scaling up its pilot PFAS destruction system to a fullscale
operation capable of treating millions of gallons of contaminated water annually.
To support its expansion, TRE is constructing an 8 MW biomass power plant. This facility will generate lowcost,
biomass-powered electricity for the electrochemical process, provide heat for distillation and sterilization,
and produce hydrogen for mobile fuel. TRE plans to expand its fleet of zero-emission vehicles and provide
hydrogen fuel to the City of Tracy, Alameda, Stanislaus County, and other partners.
"This PFAS destruction process marks a significant leap forward in our commitment to safeguarding water
resources while reducing emissions and delivering sustainable energy and water management solutions," stated
Frank Schubert, CEO of Tracy Renewable Energy.
Tracy Renewable Energy celebrates this milestone, reinforcing its dedication to a cleaner, greener future in
collaboration with the City of Tracy and its valued partners.
Tracy Renewable Energy continues to be a leader in integrating renewable energy innovations for a sustainable
future.
